This morning’s slow lowland rain
falling on the cow parsley and broom
in the field across the river
and, years ago, the dusk murmur
of bees in a Latimer Road garden
deep-pitched and worldly
as if only they had words
for how the late light settled
on your slim, faintly freckled arms
and the sunflowers and ferns.
It’s about rain. It’s about years.
